Paradize on Earth

Sunday, 26 August 2007

This is a contribution from my fellow foodie buddy, Tracy who likes to discover new eateries and new food and on the other hand, our partners (who are pretty similar) can eat the same food everyday - one can eat chicken rice and the other teochew porridge day-in-day-out.

"Calling themselves "Paradize On Earth" was probably a bit over the top, but I was curious nonetheless to see how "hong kong-styled" this place really was.

First of all, this place was packed even at 9pm (they open till 4am on some days)! Secondly, their "alfresco" area had tables sprawling all over, taking up shop fronts of the 2 neighbouring tenants. Boy was I glad that I made reservations!

For $17.80 ($1 more for weekends) per person, this steamboat buffet lets you choose from scallop, "ma la", satay or fish head-based soups. We had the scallop and ma la ones, but it became too spicy after a while. Mental note to order the satay one next time, that seemed to be a popular choice. On top of the buffet items there's also a list of premium stuff that will cost a little extra.

The list of offered items under the buffet spread were generally decent, but we esp liked the "3-layered" Pork, and KK loved the cockles. The quality of the "buffet" sliced beef was expectedly inferior, so we topped up by ordering one of the House Special Sliced Beef ($12) - served on a slab of ice. KK was resistant initially, but upon tasting the tender, succulent beef, he agreed it was a good choice. :D

Oh their chili sauce was good and had just the right oomph, perfect accompaniment to the yummy food!

Overall, one of the better steamboat places in Singapore, but still lacks variety compared to the HK ones. Can't wait till Nov when KK & I will visit my favourite steamboat joint back home again!"
